Long held plans to replace the BUF with an association is nearer than ever with the matter to be discussed at the AGM during Open Nationals in October. The plans would change the ways players would pay to play Ultimate and should offer huge benefits to the game. Players would pay to become members of the association instead of teams joining the federation as it is now. The details can be seen in the proposal (http://www.ukultimate.com/docs/assoc.htm). I'm sure want you want to know is how will it affect us students. Well it will affect us but students will get a substancial discount and the benefits should far outweigh the costs. Below is a copy of an e-mail from Ben Ravilious about the AGM. The 2001 BUF AGM
will take place on the Saturday of the Open AGENDA 1. The dissolution of the British Ultimate Federation. 2. Approving a new constitution for the association. 3. Timetabling the formation of the association. 4. Choosing a name for the new association
It is the intention of the BUF Committee to dissolve the BUF in favour of a player-membership organisation similar to the Ultimate Players Association in the USA. To do this we will need the approval of a majority of the teams who constitute the BUF. Because it has become impossible to get sufficient team representatives round the table at AGM we will hold a postal/email ballot of all the teams in the country.
1. UPDATE and RESUBMIT
the information listed for your team on 2. Read through
the association proposal document 3. Discuss the proposal with your team and on the email groups. 4. By Monday 24th September you will have received a postal ballot form which needs to be returned by the following Monday, 1st October. We would also be happy to receive your response via email also.
We would like to
see as much public debate as possible on this. We
