Spirit
of the Game
How do you describe the spirit of the game? I've tried to explain it in the Ultimate Survival Guide if you are a Fresher trying to work out why someone at training called a foul against themselves (It happens!).
I won't do the whole describing things again in this section. This section is for celebrating those teams who win the spirit award for fair play and fun at student events in the UK. However in researching this site I read a passage written by Charlie Mead, the president of the WFDF for worlds in Scotland 1999. In this passage he cited the section on spirit from the first list of aims for the sport in 1983, saying how its relevance today still remains. It reads: " To encourage and protect the Spirit of the flying disc play where as partners rather than opponents we compete against the limits of our abilities rather than each other. To foster a climate of peace in which disc play may be appreciated for its ability to bring people together in a communal rejoicing of skill and play. To ultimately learn to live together through playing together." |
