Why Play Ultimate? So why should you play Ultimate? If you have never been to a tournament then it is difficult to explain what it is really like. Ultimate is a fast paced sport but is played by people at all levels of ability from beginner tournaments to world wide events. You couldn't pick a university sport with more fun both on and off the field. As a student your Ultimate club will keep you entertained and in shape (if that's what you want!) for however long you are at university with tournaments both indoors and out throughout the year and a wide range of social events organised by your club. The tournaments last a whole weekend with hundreds of like minded ultimate players at each. All give great value for money playing a great sport for two days solid with a free party of Saturday night. You sleep in a tent in the summer and on a fellow students floor in the winter. The tournaments and party are excellent fun and you really get to know the team. As I say, you really have to go to a tournament to know what it's like and those that attend are usually the ones who stay hooked. The first tournament you will come across will probably be Edinburgh beginners or Student regional indoors where all players of all abilities get a chance to play.
Once you get going there are tournaments far and wide. Each year some British university teams go to Dublin, Rotterdam, Bruges, Copenhagen and the biggest beach tournament in the world in Rimini, Italy. There are also opportunities to attend the world championships, which could be anywhere!
If that's not for you, don't panic! The university clubs train at least twice a week and have social events regularly. So if your skills are best demonstrated at the bar, there will be ample opportunities to show them off. With Ultimate, you join a sport with a relatively small community and most people are really friendly and student events are the best! For more information on tournaments and the social side see the relevant sections.
